Bio

To put it simply, I am a small town girl with a humble and nurturing mindset. In 2011, I graduated from North Dakota State University with a B.S. degree in Sociology and a minor in Human Development. Upon graduating, I worked exclusively with adolescents in various settings including schools, residential treatment facilities, and center-based programs. While continuing working with youth, I obtained my M.S. degree in Counseling from Minnesota State University. It was during this time where I paid more attention working with adults and understanding the dynamics of effective family therapy. Currently, I am working towards a Doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis on couples counseling.
Three years ago, I made the move from the upper Midwest to Colorado Springs to pursue a career as a High School Counselor. I quickly grew a strong appreciation for the current issues our youth experience on a daily basis from a career, social, and academic level. Most recently, I have spent time working with adults, both men and women, dealing with substance abuse problems and other addictions along with a significant criminal record.
The type of approach I use is more eclectic due to taking on methods from a variety of therapies. My foundation is set on a realistic viewpoint (setting obtainable goals, understanding consequences, etc.). From there I like to look at both the past events and future possibilities while playing an emphasis on the here and now. My specialties include mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, borderline, bipolar, etc.), substance abuse, crisis counseling, suicidal ideation/self harm, coping skills, peer relationships, stress management, and family conflict.
Of course, all of my experience helping children, adults, and families would not be possible if it wasn’t for my other full-time job as a mother of two children. Both are active, curious, and full of life, which motivate me to be the best mother and role model I can be. I am a human, just like you, who has made mistakes and learned from them. I want to help you; not judge you or tell you what you NEED to do, but instead give you the appropriate tools to guide you into what we can collaboratively agree would be the right direction.
