What’s your opinion of Valentine’s Day? I find that people either love it or hate it. In either case, Valentine’s Day is just a week away!

Although it is very much a Hallmark holiday, I do enjoy how Valentine’s Day gives us the opportunity to think about love and expressing it to the important people in our lives. (I’m also a huge fan of Hallmark, by the way. I love buying cards for friends and family for just about any occasion. It makes my day when I get a card from someone, so I try to do that for others.)

In this spirit of love, I want to recommend a really awesome book, Love Does by Bob Goff. I didn’t know about Bob Goff before reading his book, but when you’re finished reading Love Does, you’ll feel like he’s a long-time friend. He even includes his phone number in the book so you can call him, if you want to.

What I love about Love Does is that it calls and challenges us to act on how we love others. Do we just say we love them or do we put it into action? Bob tells of some incredible—no, audacious stories of how he’s put love into action with his wife, family and strangers alike. It inspires me.

One of my favorite quotes says, “That’s what love does—it pursues blindly, unflinchingly, and without end. When you go after something you love, you’ll do anything it takes to get it, even if it costs everything.”

This book aligns with God’s Word on how He wants us to love one another: 1 John 3:18 NIV says, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and truth.”

These words remind me to take my feelings and words about my spouse and put them into action. Here’s a few questions for us to think about:

How can I best show my spouse that I love him/her?

How can I do things that will put his/her needs above my own?

Then go do it!

These things don’t have to be audacious and big, we can show love to our spouse through simple acts of service every day, like making their coffee or doing a chore without being asked. In ways big and small, love does.

I’d love to hear your ideas and stories on how you put your love for your spouse into action. Leave a comment below.
